FAQ

Why?

This is purely a tool for transparency and communication, and I aim for this to be as honest and accurate as possible. It feels like there's always elevators broken here, and prospective residents and management should know exactly what we experience here on a daily basis.

Our building has over 45 floors and I'd estimate over 400 units, it's simply unacceptable to have elevators constantly broken and unavailable. An extra 5 minute wait up and down every day costs you 60 hours over a year.

By making this more visible, maybe we can change things.

So what's the point?

How is this going to fix things? First, it's important to say this probably isn't the staff's fault. Our doormen, doorwomen, and maintenance personnel are generally pretty great, and I personally have yet to have a bad interaction with them. I'm guessing this is a financial decision from people that we (elevator users) are unable to reach and powerless to influence. If everyone is sick of this, we can make this visible enough to our community and hopefully, future residents will take a look and know of the elevator issues. That way, it will be financially a good decision to fix these elevators!

To any decision-makers reading this, I am 100% committed to taking this website down if we can (1) set an elevator uptime goal and (2) hit that goal.

Methodology

We define a "working" elevator as one that is accessible to the average resident or visitor trying to get from the lobby to their apartment. As a result, elevators that are "reserved" (e.g. the freight elevator that is often in "independent service mode") or "temporarily shut down" do NOT count as "working".

How does this work?

Just me manually updating the site based on personal experience and Google Forms responses, more to come!
